In some ancient societies slaves had very limited legal rights. In others substantial portions of the slave population was raised for government service. Being the property of the rule was thought to make them loyal to his wishes. Some of those had very comfortable lives and political power.
But the majority of the world’s legal slaves were just beasts of the field. With no more rights and less value than a horse. The slave increased their owners’ wealth by labor. They weren’t psychosexual playthings.
Today voluntary slaves are known to sign contracts disclaiming their civil rights. Contracts that reject their legal invalidity. Pointless, expect for the thrill of the act. You can’t give away your civil rights.
One of the most common and dispiriting assertions in vanilla articles on BDSM is that the bottom is really the boss. Silliness. Safewords and stop words aren’t abrogation of power. They demonstrate the top’s risk aware responsibility. None of us really wants them. We want to visit the hospital or the morgue even less.
Tops who refuse safewords I can’t respect. They aren’t worth discussing.

on another blog late last year a woman posed the question whether any of her readers would take on the role of a slave for a year. I couldn’t think of anything sillier. I could just imagine being given floors to scrub and dishes to wash and what sort of fun would that be? Slavery might be a nice fantasy but the reality would quickly pall.
I would hope not Richard but a few may think it is erotic to even be asked that question.

I can fantasize fare more drudgery than I could ever cope with. But some people are determined to have exactly this and that is why there ad has been running for over eight years.
I think the problem is that to be a ‘true slave’ implies no negotiation. And without lots of discussion beforehand both the prospective slave and slave owner would have completely different expectations. Once you negotiate and ensure that your expectations fit then of course you are no longer a ‘true slave’. So you may be able to fantasize drudgery as part of your slavery but could end up with someone that really wants a show pony.
Thinking of Doll’s answer–I can see myself do that for a year, naked, with a good whipping if tasks are not done well. Is there a good website for such power exchange?
